When all income is surplus to a basic minimum living wage, people can afford to choose better what they spend their time doing, how best to use their skills for the benefit of humankind and their own life satisfaction / happiness - which should be the ultimate arbiter of success of a country along with its sustainability, not GDP - rather than just earning enough to get by.
This government of vile rogues should be imprisoned for good. They are ripping families off left, right and centre. We need an Angel Of Mercy to bring Retribution on earth. That is why I adore and respect The Furies. Angels destroy all corrupt governments.
Income inequality has risen sharply during the recovery. In the US, the top 1% of income earners have captured 95% of the income gained since 2009. A study at the University of California at Berkeley found the top 1% incomes grew by 31.4% while the bottom 99% increased by only 0.4%. So few people have seen their incomes rise, it’s really hard to see the recovery as broad-based.
Where the US goes the UK follows, when capitalism makes mistakes and fails, caused by the wealthy Bankers, it is the least well-off who are made to pay for the recovery and they are the last to see any (if at all) benefit from the austerity policies implemented by this government of the rich for the rich.
Basic income could redress this situation in which wealthy corporations are exploiting their workforces.
money should be just one of the tools that help a society to run efficiently, not the only purpose for a societies existance, and not a tool to enslave and exploit the majority or human beings
